Alcatel-Lucent is the only company in the industry offering best-of-breed 100G solutions for both the IP (100 GE) and optical (100G coherent) domains, enhanced by the industry’s most comprehensive strategy to optimize transport efficiency — the Converged Backbone Transformation (CBT) solution, a key element of the Alcatel-Lucent High Leverage Network™ (HLN) architecture.
The move to 100G is about more than gaining raw capacity. It’s about gracefully evolving your network at your own pace to achieve greater efficiency, streamline costs and support new services.
The move to 100G is about more than gaining raw capacity. It’s about gracefully evolving your network at your own pace to achieve greater efficiency, streamline costs and support new services. It’s about meeting the highest expectations of your enterprise and residential customers and addressing your bottom line goals. And, yes, it’s about handling the flood of Exabyte traffic that’s washing over today’s 10G and 40G networks.
Alcatel-Lucent was the first company in the world to launch commercial, field-proven 100G solutions. Our offering covers the entire transport network, from the metro and service edge to the IP and optical core. It’s designed to let you scale smartly, at your own pace — reducing the cost per bit without compromising on performance. No expensive, excessive network reengineering required: just strategic evolution, so you can reach 100 gigabits per second wherever — and however quickly — you need.
Alcatel-Lucent brings the unique expertise and technology innovation to help you optimize your entire architecture.
100G technology marks an inflection point in the evolution of both IP and optical transport networks. Alcatel-Lucent 100G solutions enable unmatched scalability, performance and compatibility: you can start your 100G evolution in one domain or the other — or incrementally in both — whichever approach suits your network architecture and strategy. When IP and optics are combined most fully as part of a Converged Backbone Transformation solution, your network’s overall transport efficiency is optimized and its resources are best leveraged — with less complexity and the lowest total cost of ownership. Drawing on deep experience in both the IP and optical domains, Alcatel-Lucent brings the unique expertise and technology innovation to help you optimize your entire architecture.
Based on a half-decade of research and real-world testing, Alcatel-Lucent brought the industry’s first complete, commercial 100G coherent optical solution to market in 2010.
In 2005 Alcatel-Lucent began its 100G research and officially kicked off the 100G era in 2007 with industry first field trials across both the IP and Optical domains. Alcatel-Lucent continued to make progress, leveraging the expertise of Bell Labs, and conducted the world’s first 100G coherent optical field trial in 2009 using the PDM-QPSK modulation format — using for that test a 1,088-kilometer link in Telefónica’s network between Madrid and Merida, Spain.
Based on a half-decade of research and real-world testing, Alcatel-Lucent brought the industry’s first complete, commercial 100G coherent optical solution to market in 2010. That same year, Alcatel-Lucent became first in the industry to deliver 100 GE service routing interfaces that unleashed the power of 100G Ethernet for the metro, service edge and core of IP networks. Leveraging successive generations of breakthrough silicon innovation, Alcatel-Lucent continues to propel the industry in accelerating deployments of 100GE throughout service provider networks.
Through its development and deployment of 100G solutions, Alcatel-Lucent has helped service providers and other network operators around the world realize ‘firsts’ of their own, including Deutsche Telekom T-Systems’ first commercial 100G IP and optical link connecting the high-performance data centers of two German universities, and Luxembourg’s first 100G IP and optical connection to Frankfurt on behalf of P&T Luxembourg.
Alcatel-Lucent 100G solutions cover your full transport network, from edge to core.
Alcatel-Lucent 100G solutions cover your full transport network, from edge to core.
Alcatel-Lucent was first to market with 100GE service routing interfaces that can be deployed anywhere in your transport network: in the metro, at the service edge and in the core. At the heart of the solution is the industry’s first 100G processor chipset — based on homegrown Alcatel-Lucent silicon innovation. Deployed in the Alcatel-Lucent 7750 Service Router and 7450 Ethernet Service Switch platforms, that chipset provides efficient 100G IP service routing for the full range of residential, business and mobile services. The Alcatel-Lucent 5620 Service Aware Manager provides the oversight needed to manage all of this effortlessly from end to end, across all domains of a converged core network — propelling you beyond traditional boundaries by offering cross-layer visibility and manageability between the IP and optical transport domains.
The Alcatel-Lucent single-carrier 100G coherent optical solution couples coherent detection with advanced digital signal processing algorithms and optimized multi-level modulation formats, improving performance with near-constant signal amplitude. It’s an impressive package that can simultaneously handle native 10G, 40G and 100G wavelengths — allowing you to easily and cost-effectively migrate your network infrastructure without sacrificing performance or having to excessively reengineer.
Operating on the flagship 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) platform, Alcatel-Lucent 100G next-generation coherent technology gives new and existing networks greater capacity while preserving bandwidth efficiency and mimicking the flexibility, automation and rapid time-to-service capabilities of electrical-based transport networks. With release 4.0, the 1830 PSS product family has evolved to a new-generation core optical switch that supports not only dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM), but also a terabit optical transport network (OTN) switch.
“Alcatel-Lucent continues to innovate in extending the scope of its successful IP edge routers. The company was two years ahead of the industry when it delivered 100Gbps network processor silicon in 2008. It was the first to announce a 100GE service routing interface in mid-2009, and it recently announced a 400G network processor that will be the first in the industry when it becomes available in mid-2012.”

100G is central to the Alcatel-Lucent High Leverage Network architecture™ (HLN), which addresses the dual challenges of simultaneously scaling and managing network capacity while delivering differentiated, revenue-generating services. HLN achieves this by delivering scalable bandwidth at the lowest cost per bit — and by embedding intelligence in the network to enable dynamic service creation and delivery. Using the HLN architecture, you can evolve your network to deliver faster service innovation and enhance your return on investment (ROI). By implementing universal access, converging aggregation and backhaul, integrating the transport and IP domains, and combining 100G optics and 100G Ethernet, you can boost your capacity and performance to meet the increasing demand for bandwidth while minimizing cost per bit and improving operational efficiency.
The Alcatel-Lucent Converged Backbone Transformation (CBT) solution represents a game-changing approach to managing the flood of network traffic caused by high-bandwidth video and multimedia services. The CBT solution closely integrates the IP and optical layers to deliver more efficient and reliable transport at the lowest cost per bit across the backbone. It’s an innovative approach in line with the Alcatel-Lucent High Leverage Network architecture™ (HLN). Now you can leverage the CBT solution and Alcatel-Lucent's unique combination of 100G optical transport and 100G Ethernet technologies to deliver all services with optimal quality, efficiency and cost effectiveness.
